Have you heard of a bus traveling between London to Kolkata?

Actually, in 1970, a company called 'Albert Tours' of Sydney started a luxury bus service from London to Calcutta.  It was the longest bus route in the world at that time.  Its roadway was also very interesting and passed through many countries.

Its roadway was as follows -

Britain Belgium-Germany-Austria-Yugoslavia-Bulgaria-Turkey-Iran-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India

The route of this bus was such that many tourist places used to be found on the way.  At such places, the bus stopped and the passengers used to stay in the hotel operated by the company and give an opportunity to roam.  This made the journey of people quite comfortable and memorable.

The bus included many luxury services such as: trav

el, food, accommodation, tours, shopping days, etc.  These sleeping berths used to have a window in the bus for the passengers.  With this, they could see the outside.  The bus also had a saloon, a place to read booksplace to read books and a special balcony to take a look outside.  The bus operator believed that such a comfortable journey will not get you anywhere.  You will feel like you are at home.

After entering India, this bus used to stop in the following cities -

New Delhi, Agra, Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad), VaranasiVaranasi (formerly Banaras) and Calcutta.

The journey from London to Calcutta took about 49 days to complete.  It is worth noting that the name of the bus of the bus service was 'London to Calcutta' but the starting place of the bus was Calcutta.  After reaching London she traveled on her return journey.  This bus service continued till about 1973.  Closed after that.

Let me tell you that the fare for a person of this luxury bus between London and Calcutta was 145 pounds which was quite expensive at that time.  Some other posters show its fare as $ 305.

In the 1970s, the price of 1 dollar was around 7.7 rupees and 1 pound was 18.8 rupees.  In this case, about 2726 rupees for 145 pounds and 2348 rupees for 305 dollars.  While 1 dollar is priced in pounds, 1 dollar = 0.41667 British pounds.

Today, the price of 1 dollar is around 75 rupees while the value of 1 pound is around 94 rupees.  Accordingly, about 13 thousand rupees for 145 pounds and 22 thousand rupees for 305 dollars

The bus passedpassed through more than 150 international border crossings and became a 'friendly ambassador' for all countries in that decade.
